In memory of Gertie
So why is the herd called Gertie's Goatery....well let me tell you about Gertie Goat. She was the mother of Peanut. Gertie was my first Nubian goat. She loved corn. That was her favorite treat. She would nibble on my fingers trying to get every little piece out of my hand.
She passed away in 2009 unexpectedly. It was a very sad time for all of us, especially Peanut. At the time I did not have a name for my herd nor did I really have enough goats to call them a herd. That changed quickly, eventually the group grew to a few more goats and then it grew some more! Eventually I decided they needed a name. In honor of Gertie, as she was the first member of my goat family, the herd was named Gertie's Goatery. You will never be forgotten Gertie! |
